I found two stray abandoned 4 week old kittens last week. My dad took them to the vet since they have an eye infection, and we got antibiotics. The problem is, there's no animal shelters here, like at all. So I don't know what do with them. We were planning to put them back outside after they're strong enough, because we have no other choice. But I can't stand the thought of them getting run over or something horrible like that. I take care of about nine street cats in the neighborhood, so even if they're outside I will be taking care of them as best I can. Does anyone know of a place in Riyadh that can take them, other than a pet store? I'd be really upset if I was forced to put them back outside...after saving their lives at such a young age...
P.S: I can't take them in because my dad and I both have allergies :(.

about 3weeks back, we travelled from saudia arabia to south africa via dubai. we checked our luggage in riyadh, saudia to be picked up by us in johannesburg. but alas, our luggage never arrived in south africa. we've made endless calls to emirates to no avail. they reckon the tags might have come off therefore they cannot trace it. my husband flew out to dubai, but emirates air says they dont have it. they wont pay us out till after 3months. we're on a 5week vacation in south africa and we're having to wear the same old clothes we travelled in.any advise?? we've opened a case, made endless phone calls, but no one can do anything!!!

If any? Is the latter just a euphemism for the former? Are women encouraged to go there or is that haram mingling of sexes?
Are they both just hang-outs for male drop-outs who take Islam too seriously, so they can discuss how bad the rest of society is (even their brothers who can get girlfriends the normal way) and become radicalized?
How exactly are they going to 'reach out' to people of other faiths? By handing out booklets that tell (mainly Christians) how wrong they are that Jesus is the son of God? Isn't that asking for a fight?
Do you think a 'Christian community centre' would go down well in the centre of Riyadh or Tehran? Oh I forgot, that is still illegal. So much for freedom of religion.

Well, I was at the American embassy bunker in the basement in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia with my Dad. We were in TOTAL lockdown for 6 HOURS! We weren't allowed to leave nor was anybody was allowed to even enter. It was because the US State dept issued a High alert for all american embassies world-wide and to be on lockdown. Also we were in the Middle East! It was so scary, I was only in the sixth grade. The most scariest part was when the Ameircan troops came in with like the hugest guns ever!! I was like crying soooo hard. Then the Commisioner said that America was under attack by Al-Qaida. They were scared the embassy would be bombed or something.
Scarrry eh? So WHat about you?

A Saudi judge has asked several hospitals if they are willing to damage a man's spinal cord as punishment for a cleaver attack that left a 22-year-old paralysed. (Source: Yahoo news 20/12/10)
Judge Asks Doctors To Damage Criminal's Spine
The victim, Abdul-Aziz al Mutairi, became paralysed and subsequently lost a foot after a fight more than two years ago.
An unnamed man was sentenced to 14 months in prison for the assault, but released after serving only half that time.
The shortened jail time has reportedly enraged Mr Mutairi's family.
His 27-year-old brother Khaled said they want an equivalent punishment for the attacker and have appealed to a judge in northwestern Tabuk province.
"We are asking for our legal right under Islamic law," the brother said.
"There is no better word than God's word - an eye for an eye."
The judge has since asked several hospitals if medical paralysis was possible and would they perform the operation.
Local newspapers reported a facility in the capital Riyadh had declined, saying it could not inflict such harm.
Saudi Arabia enforces strict Islamic law and occasionally hands out punishments based on the ancient legal code.
Amnesty International has expressed concerns over the reports and said it was contacting Saudi authorities for details.
"We are very concerned and we will appeal to the authorities not to carry out such a punishment," said Lamri Chirouf, the group's researcher on Saudi Arabia.
He added this was the first time Amnesty had heard of a punishment involving the damaging of a spinal cord.
"It's hard to follow details of the Saudi justice system. People are sentenced in closed trials with no access to the public and no lawyers."

Saudi Arabia has conducted tests to stand down its air defences to enable Israeli jets to make a bombing raid on Iran’s nuclear facilities, The Times can reveal.
In the week that the UN Security Council imposed a new round of sanctions on Tehran, defence sources in the Gulf say that Riyadh has agreed to allow Israel to use a narrow corridor of its airspace in the north of the country to shorten the distance for a bombing run on Iran.
To ensure the Israeli bombers pass unmolested, Riyadh has carried out tests to make certain its own jets are not scrambled and missile defence systems not activated. Once the Israelis are through, the kingdom’s air defences will return to full alert.
“The Saudis have given their permission for the Israelis to pass over and they will look the other way,” said a US defence source in the area. “They have already done tests to make sure their own jets aren’t scrambled and no one gets shot down. This has all been done with the agreement of the [US] State Department.”

By ABDULLAH AL-SHIHRI, Associated Press Writer Abdullah Al-shihri, Associated Press Writer – Tue Aug 10, 3:25 pm ET
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – Saudi Arabia will test what it is billing as the world's largest clock in the holy city of Mecca during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, the official news agency reported Tuesday.
The four-faced clock tower will top a massive skyscraper that when completed will be around 1,970 feet (600 meters) tall, the second tallest in the world after Dubai's Burj Khalifa.
The clock will dwarf London's Big Ben, once the largest four-faced clock in the world, with dials more than five times greater in area.
The around 130 foot (40 meter) diameter Saudi clock dials are also bigger than the current world champion at the Cevahir Mall clock in Istanbul, which has a 36 meter face set in the transparent roof of the shopping complex.
The complex overlooks Mecca's famed Grand Mosque, which Muslims worldwide face during their five daily prayers and is part of Saudi efforts to develop the city visited by millions of pilgrims every year.
A three-month test run for the clock will start during the first week of Ramadan — the monthlong period of prayer, reflection and sunrise-to-sunset fasting, the report said. This year, Ramadan will begin Wednesday.
Only one of the clock's four faces has so far been completed and is covered with 98 million pieces of glass mosaics.
Each face will be inscribed with "God is greatest" in Arabic and fitted with thousands of colored lights. The clock will be visible from more than 16 miles (25 kilometers).
An observatory deck is planned at the base of the clock.
A huge golden crescent moon, 75 feet (23 meters) in diameter, will eventually rise above the clock on a 200 foot (61 meter) spire, from which some 15 beams will shoot up into the sky, the agency added. The entire clock, from the base up to the crescent, itself will be 820 feet (251 meters) high.
German and Swiss engineers designed the clock and according to the Ministry of Religious Endowments, the entire project will cost $800 million.
The seven tower complex is being built by developer Saudi Binladen Group, the press agency reported.
